Top 10 Things NOT To Do During a Job Interview

I have compiled a list of 10 inappropriate things to do during an interview. Only been in this field for a year and a half, but boy have I heard/seen some shockers!!

1) Do not wear teeth jewelry during an interview. I am all about self expression, but maybe not best for a professional interview?? (Has anyone seen this before? It is a rhinestone piece of jewelry that was inserted between this girl’s two front teeth. Bleck.)

2) Do not put your manager’s name on your resume and then proceed to slander said name….revealing all their personal drama. Do you think we are going to want that done to our name if things don’t go as you please?

3) Do not pass gas in the interview room after I say, “Be right back.” I really will be right back and I will not be able to listen to what you are saying if I am trying to concentrate on holding my breath.

4) Do not put ‘legal experience’ on your resume if that means you studied legal matters while in prison. And please don’t be offended when I lock the door behind you.

5) Do not sit back in your chair and read a brochure while I am interviewing you. If you do decide to act this way….don’t answer the salary question with, “I have to have $16/hr. and my own office.” Come on…..really??

6) Do not show up for your interview in house slippers.

7) Do not curse during your interview.

8) Do not interview me. A couple personal questions toward me are acceptable but do not creep me out by asking a million. It starts to feel like Single White Female.

9) Do not wear a track suit and then ask me if it is appropriate attire for an interview. I don’t like confrontation so it is hard for me to answer this question. But I will and it will end up being embarrassing for both of us.

10) Do not complain about all the pre-screening activities including paperwork, testing and phone interview. Do you want a job or not?

Travels...

I often dream of the places I may go…..someday. My top four most wanted vacations…..and why….

1) Milan is of COURSE my first choice….to see the fashion mecca….I would be in heaven. After reading Eat Pray Love, (which I highly recommend) Elizabeth Gilbert made me ache for Italy. In fact, shortly after reading the book, I tried gelato for the first time. Yum. Delish. As I ate the teeny tiny bites of frozen milky goodness, I could envision myself sitting outside at a quaint little Italian cafĂ©. Sigh.

2) Greece……seeing the history that exists there would be precious. I am intrigued by their culture and art. Don’t consider myself much of a history buff, but whenever I come across any programs about Greece, I usually have to watch. Also, I am a fan of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.” There. I said it. I am a big dork. Seriously though (all dorkiness aside), that movie made me want to go even more.

3) London. I want to ride on a double-decker bus. I have a toy double-decker that my parents got me as a souvenir from their trip in the 80’s. I am a girl that is easily amused and I have simple needs. What? Do I need big fancy reasons for picking a certain vacation spot? Other than a fun looking bus and listening to English accents all day? Sorry…that’s all I got.

4) Thailand. First of all they have the best food ever….am I right? (Here is where I would like to insert a little shout-out to Lemongrass in Edmond.) Second of all…Bankok….another fashion haven. I love the colors of Thailand and I know I would be so inspired just by walking the streets. Who wouldn’t want to lay on the beaches and enjoy that famously tropical climate? (Minus monsoon season of course.) And I really don’t want to get stuck there a la Claire Danes in Brokedown Palace. Have you seen that movie? Not her best, but I enjoy her.
